Moulay Hafid Sdikiene
VAULT
The VAULT cabinet by Moulay Hafid Sdikiene is part of Halocline (2026), a collection examining how distinct materials meet, resist, and remain separate within a single structure. It is composed of cast aluminium and CNC-machined jade onyx and developed through a process that combines digital modelling with extensive hand finishing. The aluminium is cast in sections and assembled with visible joins, while the stone elements are refined manually after machining to introduce controlled irregularities.
The object is structured as a vertical mass interrupted by a horizontal stone element, which functions both as a visual and structural division. Surface treatments unify the piece without removing evidence of fabrication, maintaining a consistent but materially active finish.
Halocline takes its name from the natural phenomenon in which bodies of water with different salinity meet without fully mixing, forming a visible boundary — a principle translated here into the controlled separation of material elements.
