MASS

The MASS table by Moulay Hafid Sdikiene is part of Halocline (2026), a collection examining how distinct materials meet, resist, and remain separate within a single structure. The surface retains controlled traces of grinding, sanding, and welding, producing a consistent but materially active finish.

Although executed in a single material, the table is composed as a sequence of distinct volumes. The base is divided into separate blocks, joined but not fully unified, creating visible seams that structure the object. These divisions establish a reading of the table as an assembly rather than a continuous form.

Halocline takes its name from the natural phenomenon in which bodies of water with different salinity meet without fully mixing, forming a visible boundary — a principle translated here into the controlled separation of material elements.
