Moulay Hafid Sdikiene

TOR

The TOR chair by Moulay Hafid Sdikiene is part of Halocline (2026), a collection examining how distinct materials meet, resist, and remain separate within a single structure. The work is produced through a combination of digital modelling, sand casting, and hand finishing, with surfaces intentionally retaining grinding, sanding, and welding marks as part of a controlled finish.

The chair is constructed from cast aluminium elements assembled into a compact, load-bearing form. The vertical back structure introduces a rigid rhythm, while the granular surface of the cast metal absorbs light and emphasises material density. Each junction remains visible, reinforcing the logic of assembly rather than concealment.

Halocline takes its name from the natural phenomenon in which bodies of water with different salinity meet without fully mixing, forming a visible boundary — a principle translated here into the controlled separation of material elements.
