Sconce 4572 by Natalia Landowska is part of Laminae (2026), a series examining the uppermost layers of the earth through ceramic and light. The work is produced by combining porcelain clay with paper pulp, allowing for increased scale and structural lightness, followed by multiple glaze applications and high-temperature firing.
The surface is built through successive layers that are partially eroded, fissured, or peeled back during firing. Glazes are blended and disrupted, producing variations that range from matte mineral tones to reflective, almost metallic passages. The light source is embedded within the ceramic body, diffused through the material rather than projected outward.
Across the series, Landowska treats light as a structural element, shaping perception as much as the ceramic form itself.
