Oui C'est Encore Moi

Oui c'est encore moi (Yes, It's Me Again) belongs to The Confidants, the lighting collection Markul created for ColAAb, in which sculpture and design meet. A bronze head, patinated by the artist so that the surface keeps the gesture of her hand, sits on a tall matte black metal base, and a bulb above it casts light over the sculpture. Designed for living spaces, it is the larger of the collection's two figurative luminaires. The piece also belongs to 7306 Days, the first series in which Markul drew on autobiography, an intimate reflection on love and on the exchange between two people over 7,306 days. It is a signed, numbered edition of 8 plus 4 artist's proofs.

Born in Poland in 1977, Angelika Markul now lives and works in Paris. She is a graduate of the École nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris (E.N.S.B.A.), where she studied multimedia in Christian Boltanski's studio, and has received the Prix Sam Art (2013) and the Prix Coal (2016), the latter recognising work at the intersection of art and environment.

Her practice is drawn to places that are vanished, little-known, or dangerous, blending documentary fact with fiction and science fiction. Recent films have taken her to Yonaguni, off southern Japan, to film a submerged monument of unknown origin; to the Naica crystal mine in northern Mexico, now closed to visitors; and to Chernobyl, to capture nature rebuilding itself on its own ruins. Her latest film, La Mémoire des Glaciers, continues a decade-long inquiry into memory, the body, place, destruction, and the cycle of life.

Working between these paradoxes, she seeks not only to capture images but to sculpt them, making visible what is otherwise obscure and hidden.
