Raphaël Raffel
Croissant sofa
The Croissant sofa was designed by Raphaël Raffel for Maison Honoré in Paris in the 1970s, and is one of the most distinctive seating forms of French design from that decade. Its deep crescent silhouette curves around the sitter, and its fully upholstered body, padded from base to backrest, seems to rest directly on the floor. Low, generous and sculptural, it is designed to be seen from every angle, which suits open-plan interiors as well as a central living room. Maison Honoré made it to special order at its workshop in the Saint-Ouen flea market until the early 1980s, so original examples are rare today. It embodies the relaxed, sensual approach to comfort that defined 1970s Parisian interiors.
