Self-taught, Wojtek Józefowicz is a sculptor, designer, builder and musician who grew up between Warsaw and Rome. As a teenager in Rome, he briefly attended art school but mostly followed his own course of study, drawing the architecture and sculpture of the ancient city. His first goldsmithing, graphic, and photographic projects date from those years. Based in Warsaw, he has exhibited in Poland and abroad, including at the French Embassy in Warsaw and Universo Paralelo in Barcelona.
His path has been as varied as his output. He came to wood through fine carving, reproducing a collection of 18th-century wooden spoons, and a few years later carved two larger-than-life lions in sandstone. He designed his first furniture for a restaurant, worked for a time in Rome, and then ran his own furniture studio and workshop in Warsaw. Alongside this he has worked in scenography and mechanical special effects, and collaborated with scientists on experimental research installations. He has stopped counting, but has probably designed and made more than two thousand objects by his own hand, from furniture and jewellery to tools, musical instruments and staircases.
Avoiding direct influence and recognising no physical limits, Józefowicz develops his own techniques and tools as he goes, improvising in sculpture much as he does in music.
