Da Tos was a Venetian sculptor and restorer, once part of Guillon's family, who worked on French monuments including the Sanctuary of Lourdes and the Place du Capitole in Toulouse. Moulds and fragments taken from churches and historic buildings are set into forms sculpted in wax and cast in bronze, where they meet radical lines and tubes of light. A pale, almost spectral patina covers the surface, and polished areas let the bronze show through the relief. The piece does not look back with nostalgia; it gives an inherited fragment a future.
